Fly Fishing the Bow River 09 SEPT. in the Snow!

While the rest of Calgary was bundled inside an adventurous Crew decided to persist with a run down the river and, of course, I was all for it. September Snows! I was dressed for the weather and the Crew too brought their best they had with them cool weather gear. When flurries flew they made use of the extra warm clothing I was sure to bring along and all was well. At the first good pool we stopped and after there a while I remarked “we should be catching some fish”. Taking up a rod myself I hooked three in rapid succession. Knowing it can be done is axiomatic and after they “observed” the fish could be caught, the Crew too began to catch fish! I wonder how the term “sweet spot” translates to their native Japanese for as we left the pool it was asked “where is the next sweet spot?”. Cool as the weather! It’s nearly proverbial how fisher people believe that when the weather is poor the fishing is always better. I think that it’s just fisher people optimism but I sure couldn’t argue against it today. And so, with that attitude we continued on downstream. Needless to say we had the river all to ourselves! Sweet!
